Hello. Please explain American bed sizes to me. In the UK we have:- single bed (usually 3ft across), double beds (4'6" across) and kingsize (5ft across +). How big is a queen size bed? Do you have kingsize beds? Please get out your tape measures and let me know.
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 4:33:15 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I have a kingsize bed. And there's something called a California King, which isn't as long but wider, or something like that.
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 4:35:58 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Twin - 39" x 75"
Full - 54" x 75"
Twin XL - 39" x 80"
Queen - 60" x 80"
King - 76" x 80"
CA King - 72" x 84"

Myk Murphy:
it appears that a king size in the UK is a queen size here. interesting. i've never heard of a california king bed... but i must ask: are you bed shopping over the internet, sleepy? i can't imagine the shipping on a King from the states to the UK.
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 5:16:26 pm)

Chewing Wax:
It's remarkable how much of the bed a 62 lb dog can take up.
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 5:30:07 pm)

King Koil:

Remember folks, a soft mattress is bad for your brain stem!
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 5:34:48 pm)

Myk Murphy:
let it be known! there was an impromptu quake 3 brawl between 4 of us at the end of work today, and i successfully conquered the evil Dwayne, who has been begging for a match from me, and has been talking shit all week. i came in 2nd overall, still no match for the dastardly Matt! curses!
(Thu May 25, 2000 - 10:58:30 pm)

Sleepy:
Myk - I'm not bed shopping at all. I'm just curious about bed sizes.

Good morning.

Sleepy:
What's the logic of calling a single bed a twin bed in the US?
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 5:25:55 am)

Dr GB:
There's many a slip, twixt cup and lip, and the sound it makes, is drip-drip-drip.
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 7:43:59 am)

Dr GB:
I have a little sparrow, I keep him in a tin, I fight him with a marrow, and I nearly always win.

Mattress Logic:
Main Entry: twin bed
Function: noun
Date: 1919
: one of a pair of matching single beds

(Fri May 26, 2000 - 8:34:22 am)

Myk Murphy:
good morning! that mattress logic is what i suspected: these beds must be popular in pairs. but enough of my mumblings.... continue the poetry, dear gb!
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 9:23:16 am)

Chewing Wax:
Good morning sleepers
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 9:27:57 am)

Myk Murphy:
howdy, wax. big plans on this fine memorial day weekend?
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:11:42 am)

Chewing Wax:
I'm heading to Chautauqua as soon as I can get out of this place. Meeting some friends from the wine country and Anne's sister is coming up. Little bonfire, little water skiing, hiking hunting fishing. Unfortunately Decoy couldn't make it. How about you?
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:14:12 am)

Dr GB:
Chautauqua? Are you making this up?
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:36:11 am)

Myk Murphy:
like all other odd words in the states, gb, chautauqua is a native american word. roughly translated, most ot their place-name words are variants of "stolen land" or "pale bastards".
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:39:22 am)

Chewing Wax:
No.
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:39:39 am)

Chewing Wax:
Chautauqua means "clear blue lake filled with noisy fish and rocks"
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:40:20 am)

Chewing Wax:
Two of the suburbs of Buffalo are called Cheektowaga and Lackawanna. So you see, it's all very horrible.
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:41:07 am)

Chewing Wax:
I meant no about making it up. Cheektowaga means "horrible place full of strip malls, warehouses, the airport and Polish people"
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:43:28 am)

Chewing Wax:
You can say, "I'm taking the Scajaquada expressway to Cheektowaga to buy some new clothes at the Gap".
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:46:33 am)

Myk Murphy:
i wouldn't say that. ever.
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:54:24 am)

Chewing Wax:
No. Neither would I. But you could. You know, if you were so inclined.
(Fri May 26, 2000 - 10:55:54 am)

Dr GB:
The good thing about England is that nothing means anything. Place names, names of people, nothing. It's all pointless and bland. Rule Britannia.
