i think it's a dumb move with so many unenforceable elements, but policing intellectual property issues on the internet is not a clear-cut left-or-right issue. it's another form of protectionism that rears its ugly head in different ways, in different parts of the world. but that's an objective analysis. in real life: if it feels like a retaliation and a tax shakedown against US-based technology companies after the US poked the EU in the eye, well... your instincts are correct. it's the return salvo in the trade war, nothing more or less.
