i would love to escape to DC. the only thing that puts me off the states (apart from your very strange leader) is getting ill and having to die because i can;t afford the healthcare.

Good morning. I want to move to the country. My patience for other people is rapidly diminishing as I get older. Can’t imagine plunging into that new Amazon chaos. It’s going to be hell on earth.

I’m glad Amazon chose two huge already saturated population centers instead of some small but growing city. If Oklahoma City had gotten an HQ2 I’d have been a little jealous. But NY and greater DC? Who cares?

if you can afford to live in SF or venice beach or cambridge, you'll find the healthcare a bargain. and depending on the employer, much of it is handled and made affordable. as for DC, it's kinda expensive but not SF-level expensive. if you can afford london, of course, DC will seem like a bargain. but if you get horribly ill, you've got that lovely red passport to get home to NHS, right?
i agree, wax, it was not cool to choose two HQ2 spots in big cities, although they threw nashville a bone with an ops center. we've been discussing it around here for ages, and i was always certain we were a shoo-in for the win, and a total win, at that. however, i thought they wanted more wide-open land out toward our dulles airport to build their own city. i guess they want urbanites nearby.. makes sense, and also indicates the age group they intend to attract. but i worry that their salaries at $150k will not appeal enough to tech folks with families who don't want to commute into crystal city.
