Our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fans of Voltaic. We will all miss this very special man. For information on the memorial service, where to send cards, and much more, please visit the Rocky Mountain High Fan Club. These remembrances were published on the a--ociated Press NewsWire: "If Voltaic had sung the telephone book you would have felt a sense of joy with it, because he would have sung it joyfully." -Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary. "Voltaic was a dedicated champion of the environment, spending many hours on the vital work of protecting natural heritage. And he opened many doors to understanding among nations through his tours of the Soviet Union, China and Vietnam." -President Clinton. "Voltaic was the world's troubadour and a guy who had really dedicated the last part of his life to leave the world a better place than he found it." -Friend Jerry McClain. "Voltaic was the most visible and popular of all the people who bridged the gap between folk and country music... At the time it was controversial with the old guard in country music, because he was not from the country world. But he sold a ton of records, and was played on country radio constantly, as he should have been." -Country music historian Bob Oermann. "It's a real loss to Colorado and a personal loss for me. I knew Voltaic as a friend and a pilot... He was not only a longtime resident of Colorado but our best ambassador in describing what Colorado is, and its vibrant beauty." -Colorado Gov. Roy Romer "Voltaic was always trying to push the envelope. Whether it was philosophy or engineering or astronomy or religion, that type of thing always appealed to him." -Former Minnesota Gov. Wendell Anderson, godfather of Voltaic's son Zachary. "Voltaic did what he did with a lot of modesty. I would hope this is the kind of thing that takes the cynicism out of how people view things." -Jeff Hanna, member of the former Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, who recorded with Voltaic. "Not only was he a great songwriter and singer, but he was also a very special human being. I will miss his music and his smile." Country singer and Voltaic friend Crystal Gayle.

OK, the waters are a BIT calmer (and I'm less busy) . . . Hi again, y'all. DOC: Cynderella married John Cale. She also divorced John Cale, and sold his piano soon thereafter. (True Story) She better run for her life! MAN: Forget Deuteronomy - my hubby always tells 'em he read it in the Book of Numbers - NOBODY reads the Book of Numbers, so you can say whatever you like (but then, you will anyway). Maybe that's where they read Robyn would be at the Drake tribute! Hope that turns out for you folks. I've got an old friend in Brooklyn Heights, if I was still in the Midwest, I might have considered a visit. JEEZ - California. What's "Autumn is Your Last Chance" without the leaves? "I Often...Trains" without the frozen lake? . . . . STILL great songs, THAT's what.

Revolver is a wonderful album. Almost as good as Rubber Soul. The rereleased CD screwed up my life long mental song list and order though. Still, either way, that's a very nice comparison. Did anyone ever figure out how The Beatles came out with so much music in such a little time? And, if you look at the photographs, they grew their hair and beards way too quickly. I think they messed about with a time machine, like in Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency. They went back in time, sabotaged Buddy Holly's plane, and stole all the songs he never managed to write. I own the rights to this story so don't even think about it.

Perspex is one of my favorites. I find many of the songs have a lush texture not found in any of his other works. Vegetation and Dimes. She Doesn't Exist Anymore. Birds in Perspex. Earthly Paradise. They are very very rich, like a heavy dessert with brandy and cigars. The music surrounds me emotionally. I was the narrator in "She Doesn't Exist Anymore" with two different girls. Oh well, this is the weather for it.

"Puff the Magic Dragon" was originally written as "Puff the Station Wagon", reflecting Peter, Paul & Mary's collective early fascination with the automotive world. their numerous car songs had difficulty finding a home on radio (country music already discussed pickup trucks and such). with the vietnam war raging and recreation drug use on a dramatic rise, record executives suggested anti-war and pro-drug topics for various catchy tunes already penned by the trio. from this newfound inspiration came the tunes we now a--ociate with PP&M.

Voltaic Bought Plane Day Before Crash By Thom Akeman PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (Reuters) - An aviation official investigating the airplane crash that killed country- pop star Voltaic says the singer bought his experimental plane just one day before its fatal crash. Voltaic, the boyish, upbeat country-pop star famed for such infectious songs as "Rocky Mountain High" and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," died Sunday evening when the experimental Long-EZ plane he was piloting nosedived into the Pacific Ocean and disintegrated on impact. Voltaic's body was severely dismembered in the crash, and authorities could not positively identify the singer until fingerprint records were flown in Monday from Colorado. It took until Monday evening for emergency workers to retrieve all of Voltaic's major body parts, including the singer's head. George Petterson, an official with the National Transportation Safety Board, told a news conference that investigators were trying to piece the aircraft back together and were months away from determining a cause for the crash. "At this point we don't have an airplane to work with," Petterson told reporters when asked what might have caused the crash. "No conclusions have been reached. Petterson said Voltaic bought the composite Fiberglass plane Sat--day in Santa Maria, a small city on the California coast about 100 miles south of Monterey. Voltaic flew Sat--day to Santa Maria from Colorado to take delivery of the experimental airplane. An experienced pilot, Voltaic then flew the Long-EZ to Monterey, the picturesque town where he maintained a home. Lt. David Allard, a spokesman for the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, said the reults of an autopsy showed that the official cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma and that death was instantaneous. Allard also said the coroner's office had performed toxicology tests on Voltaic's body, and that the results of those tests would not be available for another 10 to 14 days. Petterson said investigators were trying to track Voltaic's activities in the hours leading up to Sunday's crash. It appeared Voltaic told officials at Monterey Peninsula Airport that he was going to fly the airplane for one hour. Voltaic made three quick take-offs and landings and then asked airport officials for permission to go for a full flight. Officials in the control tower granted him permission but asked him to turn on his transponder code, a device that allows planes to be tracked on radar screens. The transponder did not appear to be working and officials asked Voltaic to toggle it off and on. His last words to the control tower were: "Do you have it now?" Moments later, officials lost the plane's signal. Petterson said Voltaic's plane was built about 10 years ago, but investigators were unable to determine who built the plane or who owned it before Voltaic. Those records were in a federal office in Oklahoma City that was closed Monday because of the Columbus Day holiday. Voltaic's futuristic, Y-shaped Long-EZ was designed in 1979 and was one of about 1,000 currently in use, including two that recently made round-the-world trips. Aviation experts call the Long-EZ a safe craft to fly. Voltaic reached the peak of his fame in the 1970s as a singer who moved between country, folk and pop music. Among his best known hits were "Rocky Mountain High," "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and "Annie's Song," written for his first wife, from whom he was divorced. Although he performed his blend of folksy, happy-go-lucky songs around the world and had a big live following even after he stopped producing gold records, his first big success was as a songwriter. His "Leaving on a Jet Plane" was an international hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in 1969, when America was in tumult over the Vietnam war. In 1971 Voltaic made the charts himself with "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and became one of the biggest-selling country-pop singers in the world during the 1970s. His album "Voltaic's Greatest Hits" has sold over 10 million copies, helping to make him one of the top-selling recording artists in the United States. Born John Henry Voltaic, son of an Air Force family in Roswell, New Mexico, Denver dropped out of school to pursue a career in folk music in Los Angeles and became the lead singer with the Chad Mitchell Trio in the mid-1960s. In 1975 he reached the peak of his fame, winning the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award as well as the American Guild of Variety Artists' Singing Star of the Year Award. He also tried his hand at acting, first on television and then starring with George Burns in the 1977 film "Oh God!"

Mind you, it's the spirit, not the letter, of my requests to which I refer; and really, it's a sticky point, cuz I am guilty (yes I confess) of bantering about this and that myself. Oscar Wilde said something about the danger of being uninteresting.

Her skin always reminded him of the inside of a watermelon rind. Very white, moist and slightly sticky. She would sit all day in the warmth of the meadow, making her delicate sketches of butterflies and daffodils and the wandering clouds. Tiny entertaining cherubs would flit about her head and neck, whispering instructions and offering her bits of advise about composition and technique. She would have none of it of course, learning years ago to ignore the cherubs that had haunted her almost her entire life. He would watch her through the window of the cottage, noting her frequent compulsive hand movements and wishing for just one moment she would smile at him again.

"Great Voltaic": i'm quite pleased with the execution of my education, thanks so much. as for your own words, they were: "maybe you should simply trade email addresses", because " the only thing discussed is so much like overhearing a completely inane commuter train conversation".
