Cool. Two contrasting views. CW - after further thought, I think maybe the album I was hinting at is not as great as the others I love such as REM's "Life's Rich Pageant", Robyn's work in general and something by the Jayhawks. But then there's Julian Cope and The Divine Comedy and oh so many. I was hinting at Silver Sun's album, which is at the completly opposite end of the musical spectrum to Robyn/Nick Drake. Fabulous. I think "Way To Blue" has got to be in there. Oh, too many. Can't choose. Bye for now.

yeah, sleepy, millions of americans are up and online, including groups you don't normally a--ociate with technology advances, such as the elderly. the poorer folks, of course, are getting left behind on this movement. the web is so bourgeois! heh heh. the US online crowd, however, is diversifying somewhat, so there may still be hope. i wonder how Robyn feels about the internet in the US? i have a couple of favorites.... "Darklands" by the Jesus and Mary Chain. "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis quintet (w/ Coltrane, of course). and, lastly, anything by the Spice Girls... ok, maybe i'm kidding about that last one. yeah, one day the aspects of computer and tv will merge, but not as they envision it. to understand my point, consider this: when was the last time you saw a webpage that made a good "group event"? the answer: virtually NO webpages are suited for this. websurfing is a solitary experience, like flipping through a library card catalog. in contrast, the tv brings folks together yet cuts down on interaction (a societal sedative, as it were). the struggle for the remote control is bad enough with tv... imagine the struggles we'd have with a centralized web terminal! ...the home of the future may have a pc-enhanced tv, but the real work will be done on the multiple terminals on the "home LAN"! scary!

mooch: glad you asked.... (myk a--umes fatherly, authoritarian tone... gestures with pipe) ...DVD is something you may want to delay on, for a couple of reasons: (1)not all of the standards for DVD are currently set, such as dual-layer encoding and (2) (the one i care DEEPLY about) the audiophile-grade audio-only music format. some folks are holding out for the recordable DVD decks, but i believe you will end up owning 2! (gotta dub, so get a playback model and a recording model, ya know?)...also worth keeping in mind is a possible price drop on the next-gen models.... in short, i'm waiting for dvd to settle down just a bit. as for "globe", it's a very cool album, and certainly a reasonable purchase (more important an album than, say, perspex or respect). everyone who has paid attention to my rantings knows that "Eye" is my favorite, and i absolutely love "Moss Elixir". both are necessities that will never disappoint. before you pay top dollar for UK imports, my maple-leaved friend, you should investigate all the US reissues coming from Rhino records. most everything from robyn and the soft boys albums too. (i am a--uming that US albums sell for a reasonable price north of the border, but i honestly have no idea.) happy hunting!

Yeah, when is Storefront due out? Had read in MOJO that it was in February. Gosh! Robyns first live album on his own! Haven't heard of the tribute being a paid event Myk. Perhaps its open to the public, it being in a church and all. I think Globe is pretty weak. Its very strange - "Luminous Rose" is pretty weak, whereas "Chinese Bones" is magic, especially when Rob plays it live. The film and CD of Storefront Hitchc--k are going to be released simultaneously. The worst album, is probably Respect. The best undoubtedly Trains. It doesn't get any better than that mate! "Oh you are filthy!" Evelyn exclaimed at Binklesworth, that tiny deer mouse who had climbed upon her bed post and stared down upon her heaving bosom. "I think what we have here is a failure to exchange frank and forthright ideas and concepts about our shared universe" quipped Binklesworth, while cleaning a small dusty spot behind his left here. "I'm going to scream!" threatened Evelyn, all the while reaching for the cricket bat she kept beneath her bed for just such an emergency. "Scream to your hearts content, we're miles away from anyone. There's no one going to hear you" bragged the tiny mouse, and then he scampered away into a hole in the wainscoting as the bat flew and broke the bed post off cleanly with a ear shattering crack.

Thanks, mooochie, for complimenting my tour de force performance as Squelchy. I can see you laughing and laughing right now! Please nominate me for a Golden Hooter, or a Silver Jug Award, for my trove of characters. I will be presenting a seminar on characterisations for internet chat rooms based on my studies here. And for those of you bent on ironic postings and other "subtle" forms of humor, did you see NBC's suck-fest, SNL, with an ok skit on "Sarcasm 101"?

Wow. Voltaics alive. I told you he was a miserable judgmental grumpy bastard. And he confessed to being Squelchy. So, good riddance. See ya. Bye now. Toodles. I'm off to buy all the Fairport Convention albumcan find. What ho to Nick who mysteriously appears minutes after Voltaic's long awaited reappearance.

FROM: Nick <scarlioni@hotmail.com>

Voltaic....I just got into Fairport Convention a few weeks ago. The debut album is tinged with psychedelia and I think most fans of Robyn's canon of work will like it. I'm sure Fairport must have been an influence on Robyn. The skewed lyrics of 'It's Alright Ma It's Only Witchcraft' seem to point in the direction of Robyn's later work. And Richard Thompson and Dave Pegg (from Fairport) both cropped up collaborating with Nick Drake on some tracks....Finally I managed to get myself a copy of 'The Soft Boys 1976 - 81' anthology. 'The Yodelling Hoover,' 'Hear My Brane' and 'The Face of Death' are essential Soft Boys tracks. I think that the version of 'Insanely Jealous' that the anthology features is much superior to the one on 'Underwater Moonlight.'

Decoy, I never said, "I'm outta here," though I did feel it. Bumpy, believe it or not, I am going to sound like one of the pranksters when I say: I got tired of the non-Robyn garbage. It looks as though those who want to talk about everything including but not exclusive to Robyn are finding other ways to spend their time. I love tangents, but these were chasms of absolutely uninteresting un-related mumbling. By the way: I am Voltaic, Dr. Redjeaves, Squelchy, and a few others: That's right, I have an uncorrected MULTIPLE PERSONALITY trait. Some of you won't believe my revelation. I will be back to spy, but don't expect much without a more frequent visit from my namer, mr. d.b. pungo. And that reminds me, enough of the Monty Python, guys, it's OLD. They did it better than you.

yeah, good ol' hump day. that phrase could have all sorts of interesting connotations, if one's mind is permitted to wander. point well taken, regarding sleepy's likely nocturnal activity. regarding the discussion on MS chat, decoy and i discussed his ol' pal mr wax, and chatted about the drake tribute, some cars, and being married with children (he, not me!). we had a party crasher named borg who was a bit disturbed, really, but he went away when he realized that we weren't discussing Babylon 5 (a US sci-fi tv series, which seems to dominate that IRC server). in all, i suspect we could have a few laughs with that thing, if taken in measured doses, of course.

Trams of Old London! Yeah! Time Has Told Me, the track you referred to, is one of the most wonderful songs in the world. My favourite song of the moment.
